Arlington Shares the Dream, Jan. 18-21!
Thousands of residents will take part in the Arlington MLK"Sharing the Dream' Celebration weekend, which kicks off Friday, Jan. 18.
Those arriving to the UT-Arlington Bluebonnet Ballroom for the dinner and awards banquet on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and at the"Sharing the Dream' MLK Step competition at Arlington High School on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. are reminded to plan your route and travel early to ensure a timely arrival.
Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 16, Union Pacific Railroad has plans to begin construction work on the rail line that runs through central Arlington. The detours along the rail line could impact travel plans for many commuters in this area. Click here before you go.
This year's MLK Celebration continues to be the largest of its kind in the country, spanning four days. Chairperson Nita Haliburton said the Arlington celebration offers something for everyone, including a Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 21.
"The Arlington MLK Celebration is truly a community celebration,' Haliburton said."It's a chance to reflect, serve and change the world. Most events are free and open to the public.'
Co-Chair Felisha Battles said a lot of hard work has gone into planning activities that also"inspire, educate and celebrate Dr. King.'
"His dream lives on in Arlington in so many ways,' Battles said."A special thanks to our founding organizers, event sponsors, volunteers, award winners and all who have helped to make this celebration one of the best in the country.'
This year's theme is"Speak Up. Speak Out. Change the World!'
