This week, city crews are scheduled to begin the Tri-Schools Road Project, a multi-million dollar project featuring water, sanitary sewer, storm water drainage, street lighting and street pavement improvements.
During this project, crews will improve the following roads: Calendar, Curry, Ledbetter and Russell. Ledbetter, Russell and Calendar are narrow, two-lane asphalt roadways with ditch drainage and limited sidewalks, making the area unsafe for children who walk to school. Residents in the area petitioned for the project, which has been developed with community support over the past few years.
Each of these streets services three Mansfield ISD public schools: Carol Holt Elementary, Cross Timbers and TA Howard Middle School. The drop-off and pick up hours will be staggered to help ease congestion in the area. The area generates heavy congestion during morning and afternoon peak hours.
In order to alleviate this congestion, crews will widen portions of the roadways and design improvements to key intersections that will enhance traffic flow during peak hours. Additional design considerations include enhanced safety features such as expanded sidewalks, crosswalks and designated lanes for bicyclists.
