Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton unveiled the FY 2013 proposed budget and business plan before City Council during Tuesday's afternoon work session. The $396 million budget reveals an improving economic backdrop with a projected sales tax revenue expected to exceed $50 million and an increase in commercial property values. "From a financial position," said Yelverton, "When you look at the big financial picture, the city achieves its objectives."

The budget supports the four priorities as identified by the City Council: Support Quality Education, Enhance Regional Mobility, Define an Identifiable Brand and Build a Thriving Community.

The budget recommendations include $5.8 million to enhance city streets, more than $1 million to fund police and fire staff. A recurring 3-percent pay raise for City employees is among the recommended proposals as well. The budget also allows for numerous programs in support of education, such as $121 thousand for online tutoring for students K - 12th grade.
