Bonnie and Don Adams said they hope everyone will find the kind of love they have.

The couple met four years ago at the Arlington Senior Recreation Center on New York Avenue. They saw each other at events and often played games at the same table, Don Adams said.

He asked Bonnie Adams to the Ennis Bluebonnet Festival on April 17, 2010, where they had their first date.

"I think he was pretty confident I would say yes," Bonnie Adams said.

Pam Mitchell, an administrative aid at the center, said she discovered they were dating during an outing to the State Fair.

"We got back to the gate and she was real giddy, almost like a schoolgirl," Mitchell said. "They were holding hands walking back to the van."

The pair married in October 2011 at a small ceremony in their home in Arlington. In November, they honeymooned on a cruise to the Caribbean.

Now they enjoy a relaxed life, Don Adams said, and spend their time watching old movies, reading poetry, listening to music and going to museums.

Don Adams said the key to a successful relationship goes beyond the words people say.

"You have to care about the person and know they care about you," he said. "You have to really express that and show it and believe it, not just say it."

With Valentine's Day today, Bonnie Adams' advice to couples is simple.

"Life is short," she said. "Go for the gusto."
