The Texas Rangers invited Buddy Blue, mascot for Arlington's Parks and Recreation Department, to throw out the first pitch for the August 2nd game against the Los Angeles Angels at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. This was a big day for Buddy and he has agreed to share his journal log along with pictures of the experience. We hope you enjoy!
8:00 - Woke up tried to drink raw eggs for breakfast like Rocky. Note to self: research alternatives to be like Rocky.
10:07 - Turned on ESPN SportsCenter. Surprised they're not covering my first pitch today. I guess I'll wait until "Web Gems" tonight. I'll flip over to the Olympics for now.
2:52 - After lunch, went and did a bullpen session with Gary Packan, my trainer and Assistant Director for Arlington Parks and Recreation. We both agree that this is the last day before I'm signed to the Major Leagues.
18:03 - Arrived at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. I guess they mistakenly told my fans to meet me on the other side of the stadium.
18:05 - Went through security checkpoint at the gate. Much nicer and more respectful than other Administrations that are in charge of Security for other things such as, oh I don't know……Transportation.
18:21 - As we're escorted down into the depths of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, I can feel the energy pulsing from the clubhouses. I got a little excited and may have started sprinting towards Adrián Beltré when I saw him. They have now affixed me with one of those harness leashes for children.
18:28 - Getting psyched up for my chance to pitch in front of Jon Daniels. Check out my game-face. See that fire and determination in my eyes? Jon Daniels will notice me.
18:35 - I can hear people laughing and having a good time on the other side of a wall. I've been told Nolan Ryan is with some friends in the next room.
18:36 - I am told to stop pounding on the wall and yelling for Nolan Ryan to notice me. Maybe next time…
18:37 - Just texted "About to throw first pitch at Rangers game!" to some of my friends: Minimizer (Arlington Recycling), Bookworm (Arlington Libraries) and Rascal (Grand Prairie Parks & Rec). They're having a watch-party for me!
18:44 - Biting my nails before I pitch. Old habits die hard.
18:45 - Rangers Captain and I "pound it" before show-time. It was great to see an old friend!
18:46 - Rangers Captain and I cracking jokes about when we were roommates in college. Most people don't know this, but Captain was a huge nerd in college. The first time I talked to him about the Rangers, he thought I was talking about Chuck Norris doppelgangers. He's come a long way since then, though.
