Filing for City Races Begins January 30, 2013

The filing period begins Wednesday, January 30, 2013 for the Arlington City Council election. This spring, Arlington voters citywide will be electing a Mayor and a council representative for at-large district 8. Also, voters in single-member districts 3, 4 and 5 will be electing Council representatives. Election Day is Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Candidate applications are available in the City Secretary's Office, which is located on the third floor of City Hall at 101 W. Abram Street. Applications, candidate information and updates during the filing period can be found on theCity's website. The filing deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013.

Filing qualifications:

  • Must be a United States citizen and 18 years of age or older.
  • If filing for an at-large or council district position, must have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the City of Arlington for six months.
  • Must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the city limits of Arlington at the time of filing.
  • Must not be indebted to the City of Arlington and must not hold any public office of emolument, which is defined as a position for profit or compensation.
  • If filing for a single-member district position, candidate must reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the respective district at the time of filing.
  • Must not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court.
  • Must not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released.
  • Must pay a $100 filing fee or present a petition signed by registered voters. The Mayor and At-Large District 8 require 51 signatures. Single-member districts 3, 4 and 5 require 25 signatures.
