Two young animal lovers find a unique way to support homeless pets
Arlington snowflakes landed as far away as California over the winter break, thanks to a pair of wonderfully creative students from Ashworth Elementary school.
Britney Loafman was inspired to raise money for the Arlington Animal Services Center (AASC) after a visit with the student council group. So she and a friend, Emmie Taylor, decided to make handcrafted paper snowflakes to raise donations for Arlington's homeless pets.
Britney's grandmother, friends and family help spread the word on Facebook and before long, the orders were coming in from everywhere from Florida to Woodland Hills, California. Three hundred snowflakes were shipped out, raising a total of $105 in donations for the shelter.
Stacy Bogan, proud grandmother of Britney, said "I'm so proud of these girls! Congrats on the $105 raised and donated!'
The girls visited the Animal Service Center to present the funds in person on January 18th to Volunteer and Administrative Coordinator Cheri Colbert. But Britney's generous spirit didn't stop there. While at the Center, she met an irresistible and adoptable pet she decided to take home.
Britney hopes other children will become involved in helping homeless animals. "At the very least, she says, "If you are going to get a dog, get one from the shelter'.
