Early Saturday morning, the Arlington Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at a local mobile telephone store near Interstate 20 and Cooper Street. Officers were told that the surveillance system was capturing multiple suspects actively burglarizing the store by stealing mobile telephones and other equipment. Officer Dan Garza was the first officer on the scene and immediately intercepted the suspects who were fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The suspects refused to pull over so officers began to pursue the vehicle. Officer Karen Donahue and Sgt. Becki Brandenburg assisted with the vehicle pursuit as the suspects eventually entered the highway and drove toward Interstate 35 in Fort Worth. The pursuit continued through Denton and eventually ended in Corinth after another agency placed spike strips on the roadway to disable the suspect's tires. After the car was disabled, a total of three suspects jumped out and attempted to flee on foot. Their escape attempt was short-lived as Arlington officers caught all three suspects without incident.
The suspects were transported back to Arlington where all of them were charged with burglary of a building (state jail felony), theft $20,000 to $100,000 (3rd degree felony), evading arrest and detention and engaging in organized crime. All of the stolen property was also recovered and returned to T-Mobile. In the end, approximately $46,000 dollars worth of stolen telephones and merchandise was recovered. This illustrates the great police work by the South District in removing these burglars from the streets.
