The Levitt Pavilion' s free fall concerts get underway with a crowd-pleasing line-up for Labor Day weekend! The Texas Power 2013 Fall Concert Series runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 29 with concerts at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
First up is the Levitt' s traditional opening band for their fall series, mosh-pit polka masters and Grammy Award winners, Brave Combo, at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30. The popular Denton-based band was the first band to perform on the Levitt stage when the pavilion opened five years ago on Oct. 10, 2008. That night, Levitt officials and the band decided that Brave Combo should open every fall season, and they have. Nothing gets people on the lawn on their feet faster than Brave Combo' s version of the "Hokey Pokey." Their concert is made possible by a grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation.
Pentatonix makes a return visit to the Levitt at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. When this five-member a cappella group featuring three Martin High School grads made their Levitt debut last Labor Day weekend, they set a new attendance record for a single concert with 12,000. Since their 2011 win on the final season of NBC' s The Sing-Off, Pentatonix has taken instrument-free music beyond anyone' s expectations, selling out concerts across the country and pairing their intricate arrangements with cleverly re-imagined pop songs. Their concert is sponsored by Edward Jones and The Oakridge School.
Legendary Texas troubadour and master storyteller, Ray Wylie Hubbard, wraps up the first weekend of free music for the fall at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, sponsored by Worthington Bank. Since the Levitt last hosted the prolific, award-winning Americana singer/songwriter, Hubbard has released another CD, The Grifter' s Hymnal. His Levitt concerts are appealing for his beautifully written songs as well as his hilarious stories.
The Levitt Pavilion has open lawn seating on blankets and chairs. Audiences are welcome to bring picnics, snacks and coolers with beverages, but no glass containers. Concessions are sold at the pavilion by J. Gilligan' s and MountainTop Sno. The Levitt Pavilion is located in Downtown Arlington at 100 W. Abram St. at the corner of Abram and Center streets. A complete fall concert calendar and information about visiting the pavilion, including directions and a parking map, can be found on the Levitt website, www.levittpavilionarlington.org.
The Texas Power 2013 Fall Concert Series is sponsored by Levitt Pavilion, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, the City of Arlington, Arlington Parks & Recreation, the Arlington Chamber Foundation, Coors, the Cravens Family, FW Weekly, Bonnie & Alan Petsche, Pianotex, Star-Telegram, Texas Health/Arlington Memorial Hospital, Texas Power, UT Arlington, WFAA, and grants from the Arlington Cultural Tourism Council, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Union Pacific Foundation.
