After a series of meetings, numerous tours, exhaustive document reviews, public input and public forums, the Citizens" Bond Committee (CBC) has ranked $192 million worth of projects as the highest priorities for a potential November 2014 bond election.
The 19-member Citizens" Bond Committee was charged to assess the short-term capital needs of the City of Arlington, and to provide a recommendation listing of projects and anticipated capital investment necessary to the City Council.
Including renovations to city streets ($118 million), parks and recreation centers ($65 million), fire improvements ($8 million) and library ($395,000), the grand total of the committee"s recommendations is roughly$192.5 million.
The list of projects has gone through a few iterations with several projects popping off and on the list or being downsized as the public and committee attempted to prioritize the needs of the city. Ultimately, the City Council will decide on which projects are funded.
The CBC met weekly throughout April and May to learn about proposed projects and make recommendations on which projects should move forward to City Council for approval to put on the ballot. The last bond approved by Arlington voters was in 2008. The 2008 package included streets, parks, park facilities , library and fire projects.
