Lamar High School's Madrigals to join classic rockers during sold-out concert
It's a big weekend for the Levitt Pavilion when Texas Health/Arlington Memorial Hospital presents Foreigner for the Levitt's annual benefit concert Sept. 14! The concert with classic rock's "Juke Box Heroes" has been sold out for weeks.
Arlington's Lamar High School Madrigals will join Foreigner on stage for their popular hit, " Want to Know What Love Is." As part of their own outreach program, Foreigner will make a donation to Lamar's music program. Before and after the concert, the Madrigals will sell Foreigner CD/DVD sets with proceeds going to Music Cares, a Grammy Foundation program that provides grants to high school arts programs.
Gates for the Foreigner concert open at 7 p.m. at the corner of Abram and Pecan streets. Those who snagged tickets for the Foreigner concert will also hear local singer/songwriter Lannie Flowers, who will open for Foreigner at 7:30 p.m. Foreigner takes the stage at 9 p.m. Audiences for the Foreigner concert should not bring chairs, coolers or pets to the concert.
With 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 Top 30 hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world with a formidable musical arsenal that continues to propel sold-out tours and album sales. Responsible for some of rock and roll's most enduring anthems, including "Juke Box Hero," "Feels Like the First Time," "Urgent," "Head Games," "Cold as Ice," "Hot Blooded," and the worldwide hit, " Want to Know What Love Is," Foreigner continues to rock the charts more than 30 years into the game.
In 2012, Foreigner experienced another surge in popularity when several of their hits were featured on the Rock Of Ages soundtrack. Hollywood quickly took note, and several more tracks were featured in the hit films Magic Mikeand Pitch Perfect. Earlier this year, Foreigner founding member, Mick Jones, was elected to the Songwriters Hall Of Fame adding to his list of previous honors as a Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated songwriter.
The Foreigner concert is the only concert this year that required a ticket purchase. Proceeds from the Foreigner concert help the Levitt Pavilion pay for more than 50 free concerts available to the public each year.
Vintage soul group, Soul Track Mind, makes a return visit to the Levitt Pavilion for the week's only free concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. Recently featured on the cover of Texas Music magazine, Soul Track Mind has made a name for themselves by blending '60s and '70s era soul and R&B with flares of jazz, blues, funk and dance rhythms. Their concert is sponsored by J. Gilligan's.
There is no concert on Sunday, Sept. 15.
