Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys will kick off their 2014 season at AT&T Stadium in Arlington against the San Francisco 49ers.
This will be the Cowboys sixth season playing in AT&T Stadium. Construction on the stadium started in late 2006 after Arlington voters approved a bond referendum totaling $325 million to help pay for the structure. It opened in 2009 and has played host to hundreds of major events including Super Bowl XLV, the NCAA Final Four, the Cotton Bowl and George Straight 's final concert. With the addition of the Cowboys, Arlington became the only city in the country to be home to America 's Team, American 's pastime with the Texas Rangers and American manufacturing with the General Motors Plant. That 's what makes Arlington the American Dream City!
In 2014, dreams will again come true in Arlington as AT&T Stadium will start and end the college football season. Last weekend, the stadium hosted the #1 team in the country and defending national champion Florida State Seminoles in the first game of the season. And in January, it will host the first ever College Football National Championship Game.
In just a short few years, AT&T Stadium and the Dallas Cowboys have been integral parts of the fabric of Arlington, thanks to the can-do, independent spirit of the citizens of Arlington and the forward-thinking leadership of the Dallas Cowboys.
