If you have swung by the Bob Duncan Center recently, or taken a jog through Vandergriff Park, you have probably noticed the construction taking place near the Northwest side of the park. If you are an Arlington skateboarder or rollerblader – you have been waiting for this for a while and know exactly what it is!

Construction has officially begun for the new Vandergriff Skatepark here in Arlington, TX. The project has been broken up into multiple phases much like its sister park at Randol Mill Park. Phase one of the project broke ground on August 12, 2013, and is expected to be completed at the end of January 2014.

Phase One:

The first phase of the project which is currently under construction is a beginner to intermediate, 20,000 square-foot skatepark. The design comes to us from Newline Skate Parks of Canada. The features of this initial stage will include a flow bowl, snake run, plaza style elements and multiple retro ledge pieces. The general contractor and skatepark contractors for the project are Northstar Construction and SPA Skateparks of Austin, respectively.

Phase Two:

The second phase of the project will target more experienced riders. The estimated 15-20 thousand square-feet of skatepark will be built as funding becomes available. The design calls for multiple features including a secondary bowl for medium-level skaters.
