Following the wildly successful "Art on the Greene" art festival, Steve Moya of Moya Art Events is bringing a new type of street-art festival to Arlington this fall. Moya hopes the new South Street Art Festival, scheduled for September 27-29, will be a hit with professionals and tourists alike. This event is expected to feature inspirational art and entertainment in downtown Arlington, which is quite different from other art festivals in the Metroplex.
The inaugural South Street Art Festival will feature 75 artists from all across the country, displaying various artwork ranging from ceramics to 3D media. The renowned Art Department at UT Arlington will showcase student artwork in a booth display. .
Moya, who has hosted Art on the Greene for the past two years, says the South Street Art Festival will be similar to his initial event, yet different at the same time. "This event will have a much looser vibe and attract a different type of art fan," Moya said. "It still will focus on professional art leaving a lasting impression and encourage others to become involved with the local arts. "I want people to spend time downtown and enjoy their Arlington experience."
Downtown Arlington President and CEO, Tony Rutigliano, hopes the event will garner attention for the downtown area and establish it as a future destination for non-residents of Arlington.
"By hosting this event we hope to provide visibility and attract a new, different audience to Arlington to experience restaurants and the downtown area," Rutigliano said. "We hope this event will translate success to the downtown area and will brand it as a unique destination in the future." Downtown Arlington is one of the chief sponsors for this year's event.
Entry to the festival is free, and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Art lovers can also enjoy the soothing sounds of blues and jazz bands, which will be located between J. Gilligan's and Capital Bar.
