Mementos reflecting Arlington today and yesterday were placed in a time capsule and buried as part of the city's first 130-year celebration.
Thursday's event was witnessed by Arlington City officials, including Mayor Robert Cluck and members of the Arlington City Council, Landmark Preservation Commission, 130th Anniversary Committee and Arlington Historical Society.
The ceremonial burial took place in front of the Texas Historical Marker which was erected last summer in front of City Hall in the courtyard.
“Today is an exciting day for the history of Arlington,” said Ron Wright, chairperson of the Arlington 130th Anniversary Committee. “Today is a reflection of our past, present and future.”
The time capsule will be re-opened in 70 years as part of the Arlington's 200th birthday celebration. Arlington was founded on July 19, 1876.
