A spirit of tradition continued Friday at Miller Elementary School when Arlington police officers and firefighters met Miller Elementary students on the basketball court. The starting lineup included newly appointed Police Chief Will Johnson. Deputy City Manager Theron Bowman was an honorary referee. Players say the game was an opportunity to have fun and strengthen bonds with the youth and the community. Mansfield Fire Chief Barry Bondurant also joined the action. The final score was Miller Elementary 46 and APD/FD 44.
Assistant Principal Angela Hernandez said the game was not about who scored the most points.
"Today was about community, discipline and team work,' she said. For 13 years, students at Miller look forward to this annual tradition. On the basketball court, officers find common ground with youth. Bonds are strengthened.
Spring Break starts Monday for many Arlington area youth. The Arlington Police Department reminds everyone to be safe.
