It's rare that a burglar takes the family pet, but it happened about four months ago.

A robbery suspect entered a north Arlington home, taking televisions, computers, jewelry and coins before grabbing Maggie, the family's English Bull Dog puppy, who was resting in her kennel.

What happens next is another good example of great police work.

Last week, while working a Property Crime Enforcement Detail Operation, officers conducted a traffic stop and made an arrest that reunited a family with some of their stolen items, including their beloved pet, Maggie. This arrest also led detectives to recover property items from at least six other home burglaries.

"My only prayer was whoever took her (Maggie) had taken good care of her," owner Scott Hancock told reporters this week. "There was a good chance she would never come home."

Maggie had only been with the Hancock family a short time before she was stolen. When officers returned her last weekend, she was nearly 40 pounds larger. There were tears of joy.

"I am glad I live in Arlington and I am really proud of this police department," he said.
