The City of Arlington was notified around 5:45 a.m. today about AT&T cellular and landline telephone outages in southeast Arlington. The affected area included a geographical boundary from the southeast City limits, west to Park Springs Blvd. and north to Timberview Drive. Multiple City Departments mobilized very quickly to work with the telephone provider to restore service in the effected area. While the cause of this outage is still being investigated, it is believed there was a power failure related to some AT&T telephone equipment. These outages impacted access to 911.
All cellular and landline telephone service has been fully restored by AT&T. Arlington Police and Fire Departments are starting to demobilize our increased public safety staffing at the below intersections and will be clear by noon. AT&T reported the following statement to the City of Arlington regarding the outage:
"Early this morning, some AT&T customers in the Arlington area may have intermittently experienced an issue with wireline or wireless services for a short time after commercial power was lost in one of our central offices. Technicians quickly worked to activate back-up power, and service is currently running normally. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.'
The City of Arlington activated the Emergency Operations Center to proactively address and resolve this situation. Arlington Police and Fire Departments have increased staffing in the effected neighborhoods to assist citizens as needed.
In the event that you do not have a working landline or cell phone service and are in need of assistance, there is another option to get help. If your internet service is working, you can always go to www.arlingtonpd.org and click on the "Chat live with the police online'to obtain assistance as well. Police officers staff the live chat system. The following intersections were staffed with extra police and fire personnel until noon Saturday morning. The Fire Department also had increased staffing at fire stations listed below. Updates will continue to be posted on Twitter @ArlingtonPD throughout the day, as needed.
