Career Path

Whether you're just starting out, looking to re-enter the workforce or wanting to switch careers, the Arlington Public Library has the answer.

WHAT:

Career Advancement Program (CAP)

WHEN:

1-3 p.m. Wednesdays, October 8, 15 & 22

WHERE:

George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 E. Abram

WHO:

Adults who are seeking career guidance

Fact: You spend 80,000+ hours in your life working. Why spend this time doing something you don't enjoy? Career exploration helps you learn about yourself, increases your occupational knowledge, and provides you with realistic career goals.

This three-part series is designed to help you with assessing your career paths and develop a professional portfolio to use in searching for employment. The classes guide you through three phases:

  1. INVESTIGATE: Self-discovery, skills-assessment, online tools, and developing a career advancement plan (October 8)
  2. RESEARCH: Searching for jobs online and completing online applications (October 15)
  3. PREPARE: Resume and cover letter writing and critiquing; putting together a professional portfolio (October 22)

The classes are open for anyone interested in the topic regardless of where they are in their career - about to graduate from college or a seasoned professional thinking about a career change. While the course is designed to be a series, you do not have to attend all three classes; you can sign-up for the ones you feel you would benefit the most.

Registration is required and will open two weeks before each class. Please call (817) 459-6900, or register online at www.arlingtonlibrary.org. Look for the event on the library calendar. Registered students must arrive at least 10 minutes early. Five minutes before start, the class will open to students on the waiting list. Look for additional Career Advancement Program (CAP) sessions in the months to come. These will be posted on the library website.

This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (Texas State Library and Archives Commission).
