More than 200 volunteers from across the city were recognized Friday for their dedication to public safety.

The Arlington Police Department Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was held at the South Police Service Center. The theme was "We Love Our Volunteers." The Community Room was decorated in red and white with candy and cupcake stations. There were door prizes and presentations.

The volunteers attending the appreciation luncheon represent many facets of APD. They serve in skywatch towers, patrol their neighborhoods and assist with general administrative work. Many are active members of Community Watch Groups and Citizens Police Academy Alumni associations.

Chief Will Johnson thanked the volunteers for their dedication, just in time for National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which starts April 21.

During the Luncheon, the department presented Shawn Houtchens with the Volunteer of the Month Award and the APD Volunteer Coordinators recognized Sgt. Curtis Petties for his leadership as a volunteer administrator.
