The Texas Rangers and HKS released revised renderings of the new $1.1 billion Globe Life Field, providing glimpses of design elements such as the retractable roof, soaring brick arches that line the concourse and seating configurations that place fans even on the upper decks closer to the field.

The renderings, which included views of the main entrance and the asymmetrical field design, were shown during a press conference Thursday at Globe Life Park, just across the street from where the new ballpark will open adjacent to the Texas Live! entertainment complex in 2020. Some of Globe Life Field's features include unobstructed views of the field for fans walking along the concourse as well as large glass exterior windows designed to bring in natural light and provide inviting views inside and outside of the park.

The retractable roof, open gathering spaces adjacent to the ballpark and proximity to other shopping, dining and retail destinations at Texas Live! will make it possible for the Rangers to host events year-round, said Rob Matwick, Rangers executive vice president of business operations.

"It's amazing. It truly is," Matwick said. "We want this to be the best Major League Baseball facility there is. A building like this gives us opportunities that just don't exist for us today at Globe Life Park."

The new ballpark's architecture is intended to complement but not copy Globe Life Park and to even improve upon some of the features fans say they love, said Brian Trubey, HKS executive vice president. Shortly after Arlington voters approved helping publicly finance the new ballpark last November, the Texas Rangers began gathering input through a fan feedback website and focus groups about the design and the type of ballpark experience fans said they wanted to see. The new park will feature brick and Texas limestone, more landscaping, overhangs to provide shade for fans outdoors, an asymmetrical field design and a more intimate seating environment, Trubey said.

The HKS team also worked hard to ensure the retractable roof, designed to slide open to the west toward Johnson Creek at AT&T Stadium, does not overwhelm Globe Life Field's design, Trubey said. The roof features glass panels in the center to help create an open-air feel even when it is closed.

"The roof should not dominate the design. This is about an open-air ballpark that has a roof on it," Trubey said.

Additional renderings and information about the ballpark's fan features and architectural elements are set to be released in the coming months. The Texas Rangers are still collecting fan feedback online here.
