South Street Art Festival

Returning for its fourth year, the South Street Arts Festival aims to give artists, musicians and brewers a place to find their audience. The three-day festival is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, October 14, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 15 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 16 on South Street between Mesquite and East streets in downtown Arlington. Admission is free and free parking is available throughout the downtown district. Visitors will be able to peruse more than 50 artist booths, showcasing and selling works in all forms of fine arts including ceramics, fiber, glass, mixed media, photography, sculpture and more. Notable items include steam punk jewelry and innovative metal works. Vendors will also serve festival fare, from barbeque and fried gator to funnel cake paradise.

Second Annual Touch-a-Truck Event

If you have a child whose eyes light up at the sights and sounds of big trucks, then you don't want to miss the Arlington Public Library's second annual Touch-a-Truck! From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 15, as many as 20 different big vehicles will fill the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church at 313 E. North St. for this community-driven event. Children and their families are invited to explore, touch, and learn about fire engines, recycling trucks, police cars, water vehicles, and more. Parking for this free event will be available in the lots on Center Street across from the FUMC lot. Arlington Parks and Recreation's Food Truck Friday Dinner Series

This Friday night's food truck line up includes Butchers Son, Rockn' Ricks, Rollin' Stone, K.B. Brats and Sandwiches Around the World. If you need a sweet treat after dinner, stop by Steel City Pops or Todally Ice's trucks. Soulful Gypsy's fashion truck will also be on scene. Ventana Grille will also be onsite featuring Legal Draft Beer Co. along with other beer and wine options. Food Truck Fridays are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each Friday at Stovall Park, 2800 W. Sublett Road, until Oct. 14. Then starting October 21, Food Truck Lunches will move to Founders Plaza/Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The final Food Truck Friday lunch will be November 11.

Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest

Six Flags Over Texas has announced it will introduce Rage of the Gargoyles Virtual Reality on the Shock Wave roller coaster during this year's Fright Fest! Using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, riders are transported into the incredibly immersive world of virtual reality and become pilots of an Apache-style helicopter and transported into a futuristic battle against blood-thirsty gargoyles on Shock Wave. Also new this Fright Fest season, those who are brave enough to walk the park's midways at night will be introduced to a wicked and blood thirsty journey in the scare zone Black Widow's Walk and the ultimate full-sensory adventure - Blackout haunted house. Fright Fest runs, on select days, through Monday, October 31.

"Ulterior Motifs" at Arlington Museum of Art

The Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington Cultural Tourism Council, and Wheeler Bro's Studios is proud to present the 14th instillation of the renowned group exhibition known as Ulterior Motifs. Conceived in 1999 by Jeffrey and Bryan Wheeler as a celebratory exhibition of Lubbock art and music, this semi-regular show has gradually evolved into a wider presentation of prominent contemporary artists who live in or maintain strong ties to Texas. Herman's Hermits at Arlington Music Hall

At the age of fifteen, Peter Noone achieved international fame as "Herman", lead singer of the legendary Sixties pop band Herman's Hermits. His classic hits included: "I'm Into Something Good" "Mrs. Brown, you've Got A Lovely Daughter", "I'm Henry VIII, I Am", "Silhouettes", "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat", "Just A Little Bit Better", "Wonderful World", "There's A Kind of Hush", "A Must To Avoid", "Listen People", "The End of the World" and "Dandy". Ultimately, Herman's Hermits sold over sixty million recordings. In all, fourteen singles and seven albums went gold. The Hermits were twice named Cashbox's "Entertainer of the Year". Don't miss your chance to see the legendary band this Friday, October 14 at Arlington Music Hall! The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at the venue's website.

Amigo Guitar Shows Present GuitArlington 2016

America's oldest consumer guitar event heads to the Arlington Convention Center this Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16, 2016. The Arlington show remains one of the world's largest guitar shows and will feature hundreds of guitars to check out including acoustics, electric, bass and even vintage equipment. Admission is $20 for adults, children 11 and under are free if accompanied by an adult. Parking is $5 per car.

Star of Texas Challenge

Now's your chance to check out Arlington's newest public art, get your picture on the City's Facebook and Twitter pages and win a prize pack all at the same time. It's the Star of Texas Challenge and you can join the race. The City and the Arlington Museum of Art challenge residents to visit the 20 stars positioned throughout Arlington and check out each artist's interpretation of what makes Arlington the American Dream City!

  • You can upload all 20 photos as you go or post them all at once. It's up to you! We'll keep track of your name if you want to do them one at a time!!
  • In order to win the package of prizes you must take YOUR picture in front of all 20 stars.
