If you've traveled near East Lamar Boulevard - between Collins Street and Ballpark Way - you've probably noticed crews working to widen the roadway from four to six lanes and completely rebuild the 1.5-mile stretch. This $9 million project is one of the major public works and water utility upgrades totaling as much as $80 million being rolled out by the City of Arlington.
Due to the ongoing construction, traffic will move to the newly constructed roadway along the north side of Lamar Blvd, from Baird Farm Road to Ballpark Way, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 12.Both the north and south side of Lamar, from Baird Farm Rd to Ballpark Way, will be open to traffic. However, only one lane will be available for through traffic in each direction. All other through lanes will remain closed to facilitate work in the parkway and median.
New sanitary sewer and water lines as well as upgraded median landscaping, streetlights, sidewalks and signals also will be included, and will be built within the design standards of the entertainment district.
Digital message boards have been stationed in the area to notify the public of the upcoming traffic switch.
