Work will soon begin to increase concrete parking at the popular Veterans Park in west Arlington.
The 103-acre park at 3600 W. Arkansas Lane features numerous amenities, including a playground, a hike and bike trail, disc golf, equestrian trails, practice fields, xeriscape garden, a rental pavilion and an outdoor performing arts shell. Veterans Park is also home to the memorials to honor those who served the country through their military service.
" It's an extremely busy park," said Parks Planning Manager De'Onna Garner, adding that the City plans to build a skate spot at the park in the coming years.
Construction could begin as early as June to add 88 parking spaces to the park, which currently has 120 spaces. Funding for the $365,087 project, approved by the Arlington City Council last month, was approved by voters in the 2008 bond election.
Work on the parking lot, which will be located on the north side of the park entrance road, is estimated to take about three months to complete. The project includes landscaping, irrigation and lighting.
Improvements to Veterans Park are an example of the Arlington City Council's commitment to Champion Great Neighborhoods.
