With several projects in full swing, The American Dream City is taking time to honor its public works employees during National Public Works Week, May 17-23.
City leaders are praising the men and women who plan, design, build, operate and maintain the transportation, water supply, water treatment, solid waste systems, stormwater, public buildings and other structures and facilities essential to serve Arlington's citizens. Arlington has committed $80 million in infrastructure improvements for the city over a two-year period.
"Every citizen encounters public works every day. This week celebrates those employees that spend countless hours improving the quality of life in Arlington," stated Assistant Director of Public Works and Transportation Mindy Carmichael.
Since 1960, the American Public Works Association has sponsored this appreciation week. Across North America, more than 28,000 members in the US and Canada use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating the heart of our local community.
