Every summer, libraries around the world participate in Summer Reading Club which encourages everyone to continue to read throughout the summertime.

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) challenges teens to create a 30 to 90-second video at the public library and include their interpretation of the 2015 CSLP teen slogan "Unmask."

This past January, Arlington Public Library worked with the Workman Junior High School 8th grade book club, sponsored by school librarian, Sara Darden, to create a group video. The students met once a week after school in a four-week series.

Arlington library staff held four sessions to help the group plan, create and edit a finished product. Throughout the four sessions teens learned the basics of a flip camcorder, how to upload and edit film using iMovie as well as the importance of copyright protection and free use within film production. The students took on individual roles in the film process: actor, director, cameraperson, video editor and scriptwriter, which allowed them to hone important skills in planning, organization, time management and being a team player.

The teens were aware of the possible momentary prize of $150 for the winner of each participating state but many of the teens stated that they wanted to participate simply for "the fun of it."
