The UT Arlington softball team kicked off its Sun Belt Conference home-opening three-game series Saturday against Georgia Southern by rededicating Allan Saxe Stadium.
Prior to the game, family, alumni and supporters gathered at the Justin D. Wilson Batting Facility for a luncheon and ribbon-cutting ceremony. They toured the new UTA Softball Clubhouse and the reconstructed Allan Saxe Field.
Moments later, the Lady Mavericks went out and won both games of Saturday 's doubleheader, 7-1 and 2-1.
The 622-seat stadium opened Feb. 12 with the Maverick Invitational. The final pieces of the complex include Saturday 's grand opening of the UTA Softball Clubhouse. The clubhouse features locker rooms, a student-athlete lounge and offices, as well as on-site training and laundry facilities.
Beginning with the opening of the indoor practice facility in 2013, Allan Saxe Field has undergone a complete overhaul that included the removal of the former grandstands, press box and field after the 2014 season.
Renovations at Allan Saxe Field are part of a $5.5 million capital improvements project that included baseball facilities at Clay Gould Ballpark.
