UT Arlington closed a busy week at the 88th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with more strong showings on Saturday, led by Quentin Butler's effort in the 100 meters.
Butler placed fourth in a world-class 100m with a personal-best time of 10.18. It ranks fifth on the school 's all-time list and is just .11 off the UTA record set last year.
In addition, the men 's 4x100m relay squad of Butler, Treyvion Johnson, Cameron Newson and Tarik Crear finished eighth in the finals. The Mavericks improved on their preliminary time, posting a 40.52.
In the field, Roland Sales took fifth in the men 's high jump. The junior cleared 6 feet, 11 inches (2.11m) to earn a top-5 spot.
"We had some very impressive performances this week in Austin, " UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "It 's a huge stage and we had a number of athletes rise to the occasion. We are eager to get back to work next week. "
Competing at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Heath Skelton was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 54 feet, 9 1/2 inches. He narrowly missed an all-time UTA top-5 mark with that throw.
