Carla Gonzalez, a junior on the Martin High School girl's swim team, is the City of Arlington's Student-Athlete of the Month for April.

In just three years at Martin High School, Carla holds school and state records in several events, which helped her qualify for the Pan Am Games being held this July in Toronto.

When she's not in the pool, Carla is still intense. Currently she's an honor student, but the road wasn't easy. After moving from her native Venezuela three years ago, Carla struggled with the language barrier. Although a group of supportive teachers helped Carla overcome a few challenges along the way, this young lady is determined to excel in all aspects of her life.

Her ultimate dream is to swim in the Olympics.
