Each April, the Arlington Police Department joins the Alliance for Children in recognizing Child Abuse Awareness Month. Police employees participate in multiple events hosted throughout Tarrant County to raise awareness about our youngest victims.
On Sunday, April 12, 2015, at 3 p.m., Arlington police employees will place pinwheels in the front lawn of the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Building (620 W. Division Street). The pinwheel display represents the Arlington Police Department 's commitment to protecting children from abuse and neglect. The display of blue pinwheels is a stark reminder of our most helpless victims.
The department 's Crimes Against Children Unit works closely with the Alliance For Children, which is a Tarrant County non-profit organization that serves as an advocacy center to protect and heal child abuse victims. The Alliance For Children is directly involved in reported child abuse cases through coordinated investigations with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, Cook Children 's Medical Center, and the District Attorney 's Office.
The local "Pinwheel Project" was first coordinated by the Alliance For Children as part of their commitment to bringing awareness to the issue of child abuse and the importance of prevention. To view information about additional Child Abuse Awareness Month activities in Tarrant County, click here.
