Average housewife Gina Royal's life was unremarkably happy, until the day a car accident revealed her husband's secret life as a serial killer. With her husband in jail, a horde of online conspiracy theorists on her trail, and her two traumatized sons having a hard time adapting, Gina transforms. As Gwen Proctor, a hardened single mother licensed to carry a gun, she and her boys move to Stillwater Lake, Tennessee. Will she be able to start a new life in a safe home, or did evil follow her family once again?
Reinvention in a theme in Rachel Caine's newest novel, Stillwater Lake, but it's a part of the author's professional life as well. The New York Times best selling author has published more than 50 novels across many different genres.Stillhouse Lake is a thriller, but her other series include alternate histories, urban fantasy, paranormal young adult novels, and more.
"I've been thinking about this story for about five years, and despite the fact I've been out of the mystery and thriller genre for many years, I just couldn't resist trying it out," says Ms. Caine. "I'm so happy I did. The book is so different from what I've been doing, and I think it was an important shift to keep me creatively fresh."
That creativity has made Ms. Caine's books into international and critical successes in whatever genre she chooses. Recently, her Morganville Vampires series of young adult books included New York Times best sellers and were adapted into a web series with author and actor Felicia Day. Her works have been nominated for several awards and have been named to the recommendation lists by the Texas Library Association.
