The City of Arlington is seeking public input into an update of the Downtown Arlington Master Plan, which was completed in 2004.

With new businesses and housing options and more public art and cultural opportunities, a lot has changed in the heart of Arlington since the City's last Downtown Master Plan was completed in 2004.

In January, the City of Arlington began work on a comprehensive update designed to guide development in the Downtown and surrounding areas of the city. The new Downtown Master Plan, slated for completion this fall, will unify current projects and stakeholder visions to define a strong sense of place, while remaining responsive to the history and current needs of the area. In addition to the creation of a Downtown Master Plan Advisory Committee, the City aims to gather valuable citizen and stakeholder input for the master plan update through an online survey, public open houses and other events.

"The City wants to build on momentum from recent developments to continue growth in Downtown, as well as ensuring that the vision for Downtown reflects the needs and wishes of the community," said Lyndsay Mitchell, planning manager. "Our goal is to craft a long-term plan for existing and future uses that will help ensure the Downtown of tomorrow continues to be an exciting destination for our community."

A series of public meetings will be held throughout the planning process. These meetings will provide opportunities for citizens to participate in the process, provide input, and review draft plan materials. All are welcome to attend.
