Construction on the Brown Boulevard Water and Sanitary Sewer Main Renewal project has recently been completed, saving the City money and creating an easier drive for Arlington residents.

This project, which began in January 2016, consisted of improvements to water utilities infrastructure, street maintenance, and sidewalk repairs. The construction was a collaborative effort between the Water Utilities and Public Works & Transportation Departments.

The improvements to the water utilities infrastructure were designed by Water Utilities In-House Design Services and consisted of approximately 3,500 linear feet of 12-inch water main and 460 linear feet of sanitary sewer main improvements. According to Water Utilities Senior Engineer John Morgan, the use of the Water Utilities' in-house design services expedited the project by six months and saved the City of Arlington $45,000 in design fees.

Upon completion of the water improvements, 17,250 square yards of pavement reclamation was performed. This process was completed in two phases: pulverizing the existing asphalt with the soil followed by lime and cement stabilization and placement of 8 inches of asphalt to build the new road surface. These repairs were funded by the voter-approved Street Maintenance Sales Tax Fund.

Repairs to failed sections of sidewalks were also performed to increase pedestrian mobility and safety.

The Brown Boulevard Water and Sanitary Renewal Project aligns with the Arlington City Council priority to Enhance Regional Mobility.
