Celebrate the Season

Located in the lobby of Arlington Animal Services is a glistening tree donated by one grateful patron. Adorning each tag hanging from the tree is an item Arlington Animal Services hopes to see donated this holiday season.

The items listed range from dish soap to animal blankets and paper towels. It's these donations that have allowed the shelter to work so effectively in The American Dream City.

After the cancellation of last weekend's mobile adoption event and Golden PAWS craft sale, the shelter would like you to know of other ways you can support Arlington Animal Services this holiday season.

The 2017 Annual 14 month pet lovers' calendar is available with an $8 donation to benefit the shelter. It makes a great gift and will surely bring a smile to anyone's face. Each month features winning photos of the City of Arlington pet photo contest.

Calendars will be available at Jo-Eds Bomber sandwich shop, the South water department, the main Water Utilities Department lobby located at City Hall at the shelter, and online by clicking here.

If you're not able to get to Animal Services to check out the Angel Tree, residents and visitors can also visit this Amazon gift wishlist and have an item delivered directly to the shelter or make a donation for a specific Arlington Animal Services program that's important to you.

Remember that all gifts to Animal Services are tax-deductible donations.

The shelter is also having a special holiday adoption fee of $25 from now until December 31, 2016 so that residents can bring home an extra special gift for the family this year. Adoption fees will include spay/neuter, city license, microchip, core vaccines, rabies vaccines and other testing services.

In other news, this Saturday, December 10, the Arlington Animal Services mobile adoption unit will park in front of the PetSmart in the Highlands, weather permitting. The group will stay until 3 p.m. or until all animals are adopted, whichever comes first.

With temperatures dropping this month, residents are encouraged to learn how to take precautions for your pets by reading important safety information.

Finally, this week is the kick-off of the 16th Annual Animal Essay Contest. The contest is open to 3rd-6th grade students who live in Arlington and attend public, private, or home school. Essay prompts, judging criteria, and rules can be found at the animal shelter lobby or in the online flyer.

Essays must be hand delivered between Monday, January 9, 2017 and Friday, January 13, 2017 at 5 p.m. to one of the 3 locations listed on the flyer. Each winner will receive a Kindle Fire HD and a $100 savings account. The contest prizes are sponsored by the City of Arlington, Arlington Professional Fire Fighters Association and EECU.

The Arlington Animal Services Shelter will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24th through Monday, Dec. 26th for the holidays.
