7 Things to Do

"The Pursuit of Happy" blog is brought to you by the Arlington CVB, written by those who LOVE this city and all of its quirks! Email your thoughts or interest in contributing to [email protected].

The UIL Football State Championships take place at AT&T Stadium from Wednesday, December 14 - Saturday, December 17, 2016.

The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking forward to the best of the best high school football teams in the state and their even more dedicated fans to accompany us at AT&T Stadium, and we want to make sure they know exactly what fun's in store for them off the field.

1. Eat, eat and eat some more

Here in Arlington, we aren't short on places to eat. We've got restaurants that will fit everything from a family of four to a whole team and then some (Tip: we would call the restaurant to tell 'em you're coming, though). Take a look at our full listing here.

2. Texas Christkindl Market

This FREE open-air market is modeled after the ones in Germany for the holidays. Taking place at AT&T Stadiums neighbor, Globe Life Park in Arlington, the Texas Christkindl Market offers up German-style shopping, food, and activities for the kids- including the NEW Peppermint Park-which has a 200-ft Arctic Blast Tubing run on real snow! For more information on the market, please visit here.

3. Six Flags Over Texas Holiday in the Park

Get unlimited hot cocoa, slide down a real snow hill, hear jubilant holiday tunes, bask in millions of holiday lights and get the chance to ride the biggest and best rides in Texas at Six Flags Holiday in the Park. We recommend getting food at one of the many vendors, like the Cowboy Burrito - cheese, meat and potato - simple and satisfying. For tickets and more info, book tickets at our exclusive price at arlington.org/packagesOR visit sixflags.com/overtexas or book your package in anticipation of your team's visit at the state finals.

4. Get Your Shopping on at one of Arlington's premier shopping destinations

If there's one thing we like to do during the holidays, it's SHOP TIL WE DROP! From Arlington Highlands, Arlington's exclusive outdoor lifestyle center, to The Parks Mall at Arlington (which gets almost as much traffic as Disneyland EACH YEAR), to Lincoln Square which is close to AT&T Stadium, we've got so many places to shop. Venture out of the entertainment districts and you'll also find the unique shops at Gracie Lane and North Texas' biggest collection of Texas gifts at Gene Allen's. Plus, the Texas Christkindl Market is sure to have unique gifts for some of the tougher-to-buy-for people on your list. For our list of shopping venues and addresses, click here.

5. Tour Globe Life Park

Globe Life Park will be having special holiday-themed tours, and its right across the street from AT&T Stadium, within the vicinity of the UIL happenings. Get an exclusive Christmas-themed tour with activities for the kids, stops in the suites, press box, batting cages and more!

6. Cruise the Interlochen Lights

Known as the best neighborhood light show in Texas, the Interlochen lights are iconic around here. Put on Christmas radio stations 102.1 or 98.7 and cruise around the neighborhood and pick out your favorites. We'd get here early, this is one of the busiest spots in the DFW Metroplex during the holiday season.

7. Visit the International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame

Travel back 5,000 to where the beginnings of the world's most popular participatory sports came to fruition. From its inception in Egypt to all the ways it's played now, learn how to get the perfect strike and browse the halls of the greats and the records they've sent. Within a mile of the UIL activities, this is a must-do before the game - it may even get you in the competitive mood!
