Have you ever been startled by seeing a wild animal in the city, or happened upon an orphaned wild animal? Wildlife in urban environments is a concern for some, and a wonder for others. Questions such as, ''is it dangerous?'' or, ''should I help it, or report it?'' come to mind. The American Dream City launched a new website to help its residents answer these questions and more.

The new Urban Wildlife website is a comprehensive adventure with detailed information about coyotes, bobcats, feral hogs, snakes, raccoons, opossums, beavers and more. The site provides tips such as hazing and securing food sources to help prevent issues, and support our community''s coexistence with wildlife.

''The worst thing for wildlife and for neighbors is the feeding of wildlife,'' Animal Services Field Operations Manager Ray Rentschler said. ''The most misunderstood of all of our urban wildlife is the opossum. It cleans up trash, eats snakes, and it is almost impossible for an opossum to get rabies, yet it is the most trapped animal in the city.''

Rentschler said that by feeding the wildlife you are telling the animals that people are safe'' and that when wildlife loses their fear of humans that is usually when they become a problem.
