Police-May-Program

The Arlington Police Department and its community partners celebrated the graduation of the 2017-18 Class of the students from Mentoring Arlington Youth (MAY), which included the first class of girls to participate in the program. A total of 17 students completed the program this school year, which began in September of 2017.

The boys graduated its third class and nine students from the program, which was founded in October 2015. The MAY Program's inaugural class of girls had eight graduates.

The award-winning program pairs up officers, who serve as mentors, with students from Workman Junior High. Throughout the school year, officers worked directly with students on creating vision boards for their future, riding out with officers on patrol and many other community related activities.

The program seeks to foster one-on-one relationships with youth and positive adult role models who enhance confidence by supporting academic achievement, increasing social and cultural awareness and promoting personal development.

This year's community partners include the Junior League of Arlington, Arlington Independent School District, Arlington Juvenile Case Management Diversion Program, Camp Thurman, Arlington Police Association and the Arlington Police Foundation.
