Arlington Police and Fire Team Up with American Red Cross to Install Smoke Detectors
"Sound the Alarm, Save a Life" is the slogan being used by the American Red Cross to help spread a very important message. Smoke alarms save lives. The Arlington Police Department teamed up with the American Red Cross to help spread that message along with free smoke detectors throughout neighborhoods in Arlington.
Officers fanned out across the city along with volunteers from the Red Cross to install smoke detectors in homes and talk with residents about having an evacuation plan in case of a fire.
The goal was simple. Install as many smoke detectors as possible in as many homes as they could. The mission was a success. Many homes officers and volunteers visited had no smoke detectors and the residents were very appreciative of the assistance.
Working along with members of the Red Cross and Arlington Fire Department, officers also spoke with homeowners about the importance of replacing batteries in existing alarms and testing the smoke alarms every six months. The Red Cross is hoping to install over 100,000 free smoke alarms across the country to help raise awareness and save lives.
