Arlington Public Library's Book It For Literacy 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run
For the 6th year in a row, the Arlington Public Library is coordinating the Book It For Literacy 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run to raise money to support the library's adult and youth literacy programs. Arlington Public Library's Book It for Literacy 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held at River Legacy Park on August 8, 2015 at 8 a.m. Register the day of the race starting at 7 a.m. Cary Siegfried, Director of the Arlington Public Library, will be running her fifth Book It 5K this year. She took a moment on our website to share what makes the fun run special to her and offers encouragement to "first-time 5kers" to get out there and run. We hope to see everyone out there bright and early for a great cause!
Teen Summer Reading Club Pool Party & Summer Reading Club 2015 Final Celebration
Join Arlington Public Library for its last celebration before school starts this Saturday, August 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Allen Bolden Pool! The Teen Summer Reading Club Pool Party will have awesome field day games like sack race, tug-a-war, balloon toss, three-legged race, hula hoop contest and water sponge relay and more! There will also be some prize and giveaways. This event is for teens 13-18 (7th-12th grade) who participated and completed the Teen Summer Reading Club. Registration is required on the library's website. Then on Sunday, August 9, celebrate all the books, programs and fun of the 2015 Summer Reading Club! The Summer Reading Club 2015 Final Celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m. at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Entrance to the Final Celebration will be through the Center Field entrance, near the corner of Randol Mill and Ballpark Way. You can find more information about Sunday's event byclicking here.
The summer is heating up but you don't have to. Bring the family out to Randol Mill Pool to cool off while enjoying the second dive-in movie of the summer this Thursday, August 6. Lounge in or around the pool with your friends and family while enjoying Disney's Big Hero 6 on the big screen. The movie starts at 8:30 p.m. Randol Mill Family Aquatic Center offers two shade pavilions, show facilities, deck furniture and concessions. Families are encouraged to arrive early as deck furniture and shade areas are first come, first serve. $4 for anyone under 48 inches and $4.50 for 48 inches and up. Do you have what it takes to be the golf champion for Arlington? If you think you are ready, Tierra Verde will be hosting the Arlington Open City Championship on August 8-9. Starting times will begin at 7:00 a.m. both days and will be available by calling Tierra Verde Golf Club golf shop after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7th. Starting times will also be posted online after finalized. Second round starting times will be determined by first round score and will be available after they are finalized following the first round by the same methods. Entry Fee: $180.00 (Includes green fees/cart fees/range as well as lunch both days following your rounds, tournament gifts, and prizes). Deadline is tomorrow, August 6! Theatre Arlington Presents "Mama Won't Fly"
A new show opens this weekend at Theatre Arlington in downtown, starting this Friday, August 7 at 8 p.m. "Mama Won't Fly" is described as a hilarious race against the clock that begins when Savannah agrees to get her feisty mother from Alabama to California in time for her brother's wedding. Savannah's problem: Mama won't fly. With only four days to get there, this determined daughter has no choice but to drive cross-country in Mama's vintage Buick. The show runs until Sunday, August 23. Starting next week, there will also be Thursday shows. Thursday performances begin at 7:30 pm; Friday & Saturday at 8:00 pm; Sunday at 2:00 pm. Regular adult admission: $22. Discount for Seniors (62+) and full time Students: $20.
The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered up with Segway Fort Worth to offer Arlington visitors and residents two ultimate treks around some of The American Dream City's most popular attractions! Glide with a group around Globe Life Park in Arlington, past Richard Greene Linear Park and Robert Cluck Linear Park and right by AT&T Stadium or book an exclusive tour inside the ballpark. Art lovers can check out a new exhibit at Arlington Museum of Art in Downtown this weekend! The exhibit contains almost 200 pieces from avant-garde Post-Impressionist artists working in a new French "modern" style. Built around the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, painter of scenes and artists from the famed Paris theatre the Moulin Rouge, this expansive exhibit will explore the anti-establishment movement among artists seeking alternative means to bring their art to a broad public and break out of the traditional molds. The exhibit is open to the public until Sunday, August 16, 2015.
