Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and City Council members rang bells and collected nearly $13,000 in donations on Saturday, December 18, during an annual friendly competition to raise money for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.
Arlington, Mansfield, Kennedale, Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens city leaders competed in the one-day challenge, which raised a record $80,724.48, Salvation Army Lt. Timothy Israel said. The outpouring of donations helped local mayors exceed last year's one-day fundraising record of $64,127.45.
-This event continues to be a success year after year. We couldn't continue to serve and meet the needs of the community without this event and the Red Kettle effort," Lt. Israel said. -It's a huge part of our fundraising effort."
This is the 8th year the American Dream City has participated in the Red Kettle Mayoral Challenge. Arlington collected $12,693.98 this year, coming in second place to Mansfield's $56,855.86 in collected donations.
