It's back to school time in Arlington. Across the city, the community is pitching in everywhere to help make the 2015-2016 school year one of the best.
At Saturday's Back to School Kickoff at AT&T Stadium, Arlington officers spoke with thousands of kids about driver safety. Officers Stacie Brown and Kimberly Fretwell answered questions about distracted driving and everyone was reminded to never text while driving.
The Arlington Police Department was one of many vendors set up for the Back to School Resource Fair, which was staged on the West Outdoor Plaza of the Stadium. Members of the Human Trafficking Taskforce also joined the event, distributing safety information to thousands of parents and children.
The AISD Back to School Kickoff served more than 8,500 students, providing backpacks filled with school supplies, free haircuts, vision checks, and immunizations. During the event, parents attended workshops that gave them more insight into STARR testing standards, literacy and after-school programs.
This event was sponsored by a number of community partners, including the Arlington Independent School District, City of Arlington, Junior League of Arlington, the Arlington branch of the NAACP, the Churches of Arlington and the Gene and Jerry Jones Foundation.
