UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation to Offer Doctoral Degree in Kinesiology
The University of Texas at Arlington' s College of Nursing and Health Innovation will begin offering a doctoral degree in kinesiology in the fall, in response to soaring demand for healthcare scientists and faculty.
The degree, which combines elements of curriculums of kinesiology and nursing, will have three tracks: movement and rehabilitation sciences, applied physiology and physical education.
'Interdisciplinary coursework will be an important element of the program,' said Anne Bavier, Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation.'This program is strategically centered on an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare, particularly in the areas of prevention and care.'
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of medical scientists with PhDs is expected to grow by 13 percent between 2012 and 2022. The agency attributes this demand to increased spending on medical care, an aging population, increased reliance on pharmaceuticals and a growing understanding of the physiological processes of disease and health.
