The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) recognize the Housing Authority of the City of Arlington for Innovation in its use of technology in the administration of its housing operations.
The Housing Authority of the City of Arlington (AHA) and its housing software provider, Happy Software Inc., combined resources to streamline the AHA's housing operations. The AHA embarked on a journey that started two years ago with the full support of the AHA Board of Commissioners to adopt a plan to bring current technology into housing authority operations. While motivated by federal funding cuts, the AHA identified a way to reduce its operating costs through the use of technology.
The administration of federal housing programs requires the processing of countless client related transactions. Work activities previously handled in face to face (client and staff) meetings, are now conducted on-line, 24-hours a day. David Zappasodi, AHA Executive Director, said, "The transition is ongoing and not fully completed at this time; however, it is exciting to see that the overwhelming majority of our clients are thrilled with the simplicity, convenience, and increased accessibility these technological advances have presented. Additionally, the AHA staff is extremely pleased with the improved efficiency. The Housing Authority of the City of Arlington has changed the way we do our business. Through the use of technology, we are improving the accessibility of our housing services to our clients while lowering operational costs. This is an exciting time at the Housing Authority. I am very proud of the accomplishments achieved by our incredible staff and blessed with outstanding leadership and support of our Board of Commissioners."
NAHRO gives national recognition to those housing and community development agencies that have found innovative ways of making a difference in the communities and the lives of the people they serve. The Housing Authority of the City of Arlington is one of 45 agencies recognized by NAHRO for Administrative Innovation.
