September Volunteer of the Month: Cathy Dietz

The Arlington Public Library is proud to announce that Cathy Dietz, is the September Volunteer of the Month for the City of Arlington.

She joined the Friends of the Arlington Public Library (FAPL), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Arlington Public Library System in 1993, and volunteered to help sort and organize donations for the semi-annual book sales. About five years later, she began volunteering at the Central Library.

Cathy grew up in Houston and attended the University of Houston, where she majored in journalism and history. She moved to Arlington after getting married and has raised a family here. Cathy has three children and five grandchildren. Since her husband's retirement, the couple has traveled all over the world to place such as England, Italy, Peru and Costa Rica.

The Arlington resident gives her volunteer time to FAPL, the Library and Nu2U, a resale shop in the west area of Arlington. Cathy also participates in a small book club called and Whine and Wine Book Club. She loves reading all sorts of books such as mysteries, history and cookbooks.

When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Cathy said meeting and mixing with other volunteers who share a common interest. She loves being among books and doing something useful. Cathy enjoys working at the library and feels lucky to have dedicated library staff that is top notch. She says they are pleasant to work with and always make her feel appreciated for what she does.

Over the years Cathy Dietz has donated thousands of hours to the Arlington Public Library and The Friends. Her work, dedication and passion to serve the community are greatly appreciated by her fellow volunteers, library staff and community. She is a very important part of our organization.
