The River Legacy Living Science Center is transforming to feature an updated, interactive Exhibit Hall, bringing nature and nature lovers together in the same place.
The $2.5 million renovation of the Exhibit Hall will allow learners of all ages to see ecosystems change through four seasons, touch riverbank burrows and play games, among other interactive activities. The center's Exhibit Hall is temporarily closed and is expected to reopen in mid-November.
'Everything we do starts with a curriculum, and the exhibit is meant to enhance the curriculum not just for our students but for anybody in the community who comes in,' said Jill Hill, River Legacy Foundation executive director. 'We want them to know about the environment, what their place is in it, how they can protect it and why it is so important to do that.'
River Legacy is a 1,300-acre park that runs along the Trinity River, located on Green Oaks Boulevard in North Arlington. The Living Science Center, which opened in 1996, hosts exhibits, educational programs and events.
'The exhibits have been loved hard, and it's time for them to be redone,' Hill said.
Hill anticipates 10 days of demolition before the construction begins. All other programs and activities at the Living Science Center will continue during the renovation.
The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, donated $1 million to the Exhibit Hall renovations. Other donors include the Gene & Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation and the Sid W. Richardson Foundation.
The River Legacy Foundation is just short of reaching its $2.5 million goal for the renovation and needs help closing the gap. Those who are interested in donating can do so online or mail a check to River Legacy Foundation, Attn: Transformation, 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX 76006.
