Sheryl Kenny, Grants Manager for the City of Arlington, has been elected to serve as an executive officer for the National Community Development Association.
The nonpartisan, nonprofit association represents local government around the country and supports affordable housing and economic development to better communities especially for low and mid-income residents.
Kenny said she is honored to serve in a leadership role with the national association, which is committed to assisting local governments to achieve high-quality, locally responsive programs that make communities a better place to live and work.
'The City of Arlington receives federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to improve neighborhoods, create economic opportunity and provide quality affordable housing,' Kenny said. 'Serving on the NCDA executive board gives Arlington a place at the table to share best practices and access innovative ideas that can positively impact neighborhoods and benefit residents. This organization has done so much over the years to promote quality community development and housing in cities across the country.'
NCDA's goals are consistent with Arlington Council's top priorities to Champion great neighborhoods.

Kenny will serve as treasurer from 2017 to 2018. She has been involved with the National Community Development Association for about a decade, including serving the past two years as chair of the Region VI area, which includes Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
During the association's annual meeting in June, Kenny was one of four officers elected to serve on the Executive Committee, which monitors financial functions and activities. Officers are recommended by the association's Nominations and Elections Committee, and then approved by members.
'All of the officers bring a wealth of local community development and affordable housing experience and management and all have served tirelessly on the NCDA Board of Directors and, in some cases, additionally as subcommittee chairpersons,' association Executive Director Vicki Watson said.
