AISD officials, community leaders and guests commemorated the opening of Peach Elementary School with a dedication ceremony and open tour Saturday.
The elementary school, located at 2020 Baird Farm Road, features 46 core classrooms, collaborative spaces for each grade, 2 STEM labs, a media center and more. The 122,000-square-foot campus, which has a 900 student capacity, opened last fall.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the school also includes a 7,000-square-foot Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington after-school center.
The center focuses on science, technology, engineering, math and art that is research-based and outcome-driven.
The center was funded by the Boys & Girls Clubs, with a lead matching grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation.
Peach Elementary is part of the district's 2014 bond program.
The school is named for Eddy and Debbie Peach, who have a combined 81 years working in the Arlington ISD. Eddy Peach worked in the AISD for 45 years, including 40 years as the Lamar High School head football coach.
On Aug. 29, 2008, Eddy Peach became the first head coach to win 300 games at the Class 5A level (current Class 6A level), and he retired with 310 wins. Debbie, who taught for 36 years in the AISD, was a teacher at Bailey Junior High (PE), Roquemore Elementary (PE), Shackelford Junior High (English) and Lamar High School (English).
Debbie Peach earned Teacher of the Year honors at the elementary, junior high and high school levels.
