Woman hands writing plan work on note book.
Storytelling isn't just for scary tales around a campfire. People who don't think of themselves as writers still use stories every day. Our brains constantly create narratives to explain what we see, feel, and do. If you've ever described a dream, explained why you were late, or talked about childhood memories, you've told stories. These skills can help you communicate easier with family, friends, and everyone else.
This spring the Arlington Public Library is celebrating stories and storytelling for all ages during the much of March as part of our Spring Break Story Bonanza. Storytelling happens naturally, but like any skill, you can improve with practice. Join us by entering our creative writing contest, Tell Us A Story. Winners receive a Dreams Begin Here t-shirt and their pieces will also be featured on our website during our in March.
Tell Us A Story is open to all adults 18 years and older. Three categories are available: poetry or song writing; essays or personal memoirs; and short stories. Writers may submit one work per category and entries are due by 5 p.m. on February 24.
