Another exciting concept will debut at Texas Live! when the project opens in 2018. Texas barbecue icon Lockhart Smokehouse will join recently announced Rangers Republic, Live! Arena, Arlington Backyard, Guy Fieri, and Revolver Brewing within the $250 million world-class dining, entertainment and hospitality district.
"We are so excited to announce such an iconic local brand for Texas Live!," commented Texas Rangers Executive Vice President of Business Operations Rob Matwick. "It's been our goal since day one to provide our fans with the best local, regional and national brands at Texas Live! when it opens in 2018 and Lockhart Smokehouse will be another excellent experience for our guests to enjoy."
Founded by Jeff and Jill Bergus, Lockhart Smokehouse specializes in smoking mouthwatering meats in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Jill Bergus, the granddaughter of the legendary Edgar "Smitty" Schmidt who ran Kreuz Market for over 40 years in Lockhart, TX, collaborated with her cousin and now owner of Kreuz Market, Keith Schmidt, to get that iconic central Texas flavor to the Dallas area.
Lockhart Smokehouse is the only place in the Dallas-Fort Worth area where you can find Kreuz Market Sausage, and just like in Lockhart, the meat is served on butcher paper. Guests will be able to experience that same Lockhart tradition at the Texas Live! Location. Texas standards will include brisket, ribs and other meats smoked low and slow over Texas post oak, as well as, daily specials such as Prime Rib, Beef Ribs and Burnt Ends. Additionally, updated versions of classic southern sides with a Lockhart spin will round out the menu.
"We are so excited to join our development partners, the Texas Rangers, in welcoming Lockhart Smokehouse to the Texas Live! team," said Blake Cordish, Vice President of The Cordish Companies. "As a family-owned business ourselves, the rich family history and traditions of the Schmidt family and Lockhart Smokehouse resonated deeply with us and represented the perfect fit for Texas Live! We look forward to working with the Schmidt and Bergus families in bringing Lockhart Smokehouse to life at Texas Live!"
"What is more Texas than barbecue and baseball? Lockhart Smokehouse sounds will be a delicious addition to Texas Live! and our world-class Entertainment District," Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said.
Texas Live! will feature 200,000 square feet of best-in-class local, regional and national dining and entertainment, providing guests with a variety of authentic dining options, unparalleled sports viewing and one-of-a-kind fan experiences.
