Arlington Christian Disaster Network
Arlington Fire Chief Don Crowson has recognized the Arlington Christian Disaster Network (ACDN) for outstanding community service.
Formed in 2012, ACDN is a network of Arlington faith-based organizations that fill a variety of roles in our community, such as staffing and managing post-disaster Volunteer Reception Centers, disaster cleanup and recovery, and assisting citizens in need.
ACDN has been recognized nationally for its work by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) three years in a row. In 2015 and 2016, ACDN received honorable mentions for FEMA's community preparedness awards. In 2017, however, ACDN was the National winner and received its award from FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Robinson this past December.
Most recently, ACDN and the Arlington Fire Department (AFD) collaborated while working to assist an Arlington citizen in need. AFD was contacted by a woman on June 2 explaining her dire situation and asking if the Fire Department has contacts or resources to help her. As a result, the AFD's Random Acts of Kindness organization and the ACDN were asked to assist the woman if possible. Both organizations worked together, capitalizing on each other's unique resources, to assist the resident in resolving her problem.
The collaboration between the Fire Department and ACDN is just one example of the valuable relationship that has been developed over the years and is in keeping with the compassion that is part of the core values of both organizations.
